Arsenal reignite their petty rivalry with Brentford on Saturday as they play host to Thomas Frank’s impressive Bees.

The Gunners need to respond after suffering back-to-back defeats, and a performance similar to what they produced in the reverse fixture will certainly suffice this weekend. Mikel Arteta’s side were excellent the last time these two sides met; prevailing 3-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium in what was one of their performances of the season.

However, Sean Dyche’s Everton halted their seemingly unwavering Premier League momentum last weekend as they inflicted Arsenal’s second league defeat of the campaign in impressive fashion.

Things don’t get much easier for the leaders as Brentford pay a visit. Frank’s side haven’t been beaten in the Premier League since October, and they’ve taken points off every ‘Big Six’ side so far this season.

The Bees head into Saturday’s game seventh in the table and with genuine European aspirations.

Arsenal Team News

Emile Smith Rowe is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s game and he’ll join Mohamed Elneny on the sidelines.

Reiss Nelson, however, could be back in action after returning to training last week. The winger’s been sidelined since Christmas and his return would be welcome.

Arteta could name an unchanged XI, but we expect him to make a change. Thomas Partey should be fit enough to start, but Leandro Trossard could come in for Gabriel Martinelli down the left.

Brentford Team News

Frank revealed ahead of last weekend’s victory against Southampton that both Pontus Jansson and Frank Onyeka, who are nursing hamstring injuries, were edging closer to their respective returns. However, neither are expected to start this weekend.

The visitors, who lined up in a 4-3-3 last time out, will all but certainly shift to a 3-5-2 for Saturday’s game with Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney working in tandem up top.

Arsenal vs Brentford Predicted Lineups

Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Nketiah, Trossard.

Brentford 3-1 Liverpool (02/01) – Premier League

Prediction

I wouldn’t read too much into the reverse fixture. It’s bound to be very different when these two sides meet on Saturday.

Brentford are on a roll, and their knack for stifling the big boys is no coincidence. The Bees are superbly coached, and they’re the sort of side that Arteta’s men could struggle against. The Gunners, who may be reeling after the Goodison Park debacle, will have to mitigate the visitors’ distinct threat in transition and from set pieces.

Overall, this is a game Arteta would not have wanted to arrive in the wake of last weekend and while I don’t think Brentford will claim victory, I could envisage them frustrating and taking points off the hosts.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Brentford
