It’s a good day, folks. Bukayo Saka has agreed a deal in principle over a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

A primary target for the Gunners in 2023 was to secure the futures of three Mikel Arteta project cornerstones: Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, and Saka. Martinelli extended his stay in north London earlier this month and Saka is poised to be next to join him.

The England international is of paramount importance to the Gunners. After bursting onto the scene under Unai Emery, Saka has gone from strength to strength under Arteta’s tutelage. He was the club’s leading scorer in the Premier League last season with 11 goals, and his rampant form has continued in 2022/23.

The 21-year-old has played a key role in the club’s rise this term, notching 17 league goal contributions in 23 appearances. He’s one of Europe’s very best, and securing him for the long haul is massive news for Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka to sign long-term contract extension

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports on Thursday night that Saka will sign a contract extension with the Gunners.

While the player is yet to put pen to paper and the deal could take some time to complete, the winger will sign a new contract.

Despite his youth, Saka has already been through it all in north London. Now, he’s playing a leading role in a potential title triumph. The England international, who bounced back from the lowest point in his senior career to emerge as a bona fide superstar, has operated as a one-man attack for the Gunners in recent times and Arteta’s system seemingly can’t function in the 21-year-old’s absence.

Saka has played a ridiculous amount of football since the Spaniard took over, and that trend is poised to continue for the foreseeable.

Reports suggest his new deal will include a hefty pay rise which will see him become one of Arsenal’s highest-paid players. It’ll be fully deserved.
