Arsenal reignited their title bid with a thrilling 4-2 victory at Villa Park last weekend, and they’re back on the road as they visit Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners looked for all money to drop more points and extend their winless run as their contest with Aston Villa entered its epilogue. But a rather amusing Emi Martinez own goal handed the visitors the lead in stoppage time before Gabriel Martinelli eased home a flattering fourth to hand Mikel Arteta’s side an imperative three points.

And after Man City were pegged back at Nottingham Forest, Arsenal’s lead at the top will extend to five points should they win at the King Power.

Leicester had built up some momentum before they succumbed at Old Trafford last Sunday. The return of James Maddison is a massive boost, and the Gunners must be wary of the Foxes’ attacking potency.

Leicester team news

Leicester’s injury list has cleared in recent weeks, but the hosts will still be without James Justin, Jonny Evans and Ryan Bertrand for Saturday’s game.

Youri Tielemans could return to the starting XI after only making the bench at Old Trafford, while Kelechi Iheanacho should retain his place up top ahead of Gunners slayer Jamie Vardy. The Englishman has scored more goals against Arsenal (11) than any other club.

Arteta has a big decision to make in midfield with Thomas Partey poised to return from injury. Jorginho has impressed in his absence, and he could retain his place on Saturday, but Partey is an integral part of the Spaniard’s set-up.

Emile Smith Rowe returned to the matchday squad last weekend, and he’s poised to be named on the bench once again. Gabriel Martinelli should return to the starting XI in place of Leandro Trossard.

Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny remain out for the visitors.

Prediction

Arsenal’s late show last weekend reignited much hope among supporters, and Arteta’s side must build off that momentum.

The Gunners must take advantage of one of the Premier League’s poorest defences on Saturday. Leicester’s expected goals against from open play (29.13) is the second-highest in the division, so an Arsenal attack that has faltered as of late (despite scoring four times last time out) should have plenty of joy.

However, the visitors’ backline has also manifested some vulnerability and they’ll have their work cut out if they’re to keep a dynamic Foxes frontline at bay. The hosts have scored the fifth-highest number of goals from open play this season (27) and the return of Maddison has further bolstered their attack. A concerted effort will have to be made to stifle Leicester’s chief creator.

I see goals coming at both ends on Saturday, but Arsenal should be able to control the contest and eventually prevail.

Prediction: Leicester 1-3 Arsenal
