Thierry Henry has said that the old Arsenal are back. The resilience of this team has been applauded ad nauseum. However, the 1-0 victory over Leicester showed another side to this Arsenal team.

Gooners will tell you about the fast-paced, pressing, one-touch football that this team can play at various points throughout the game, but today was a gritty grind. The tie became a back-and-forth in the last 30 minutes where Leicester appeared to be taking control of the game. With their backs against the wall, Arsenal continued to chip away. The midfield was the engine that powered the squad’s competitive intensity.

Both Jorginho and Granit Xhaka suffered harsh fouls towards the end of the match, with the former enduring multiple blows to the head by Vardy, and the latter sustaining a painful medley of studs to the foot.

The defensive discipline at the King Power was outstanding. Although Leicester have failed to score in two of their last five, the Foxes have shown the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. However, Arsenal did not allow a goal attempt to be taken by the opposition until the late stages of the game, and only gave up three in total.

In conclusion, Arsenal appear to be in great shape both from a physical and competitive standpoint, but this is something we know by merely looking at the table. The mentality and the squad’s malleability should bolster the confidence of all Gooners in terms of the title race.
