Reiss Nelson reminded the world of his quality with a last-second winner against Bournemouth and now attention has turned to the winger potentially getting a new deal.

On the list of Arsenal match winners from the squad against Bournemouth, winger Reiss Nelson would have been low on most people’s list.

But…

When called upon, the winger took a touch and rifled home his shot on his opposite foot to complete Arsenal’s incredible comeback.

Having barely been sighted this season due to injuries and the arrival of Leandro Trossard, Nelson moved down the pecking order at the Emirates. But his last-second heroics reminded everyone of his quality, including the Gunners.

So much so that the Gunners are reportedly interested in agreeing to new terms for Nelson. Currently slated to be a free agent at season’s end as his contract expires in the summer, the winger could ink fresh terms on a new deal.

But is it the right decision?

Does Reiss Nelson deserve a new Arsenal contract?

With the winger said to be keen on staying in north London and the club’s willingness to offer a new contract, it feels like everyone is aligned.

After his brace back in October in Arsenal’s 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest, the thought was perhaps Nelson would see more minutes, but injuries saw that dream float away.

Now back in the limelight after his efforts against the Cherries, Nelson could find himself back in the team and with a new deal.

A new contract would be worth it for the Gunners as he has produced so far this season when called upon (which has been rarely). In eight games in all competitions, Nelson has scored three goals and grabbed three assists as well. That is solid production in anyone’s eyes.

Most of his minutes have come in the Europa League, and with Arsenal set to start the knockout stages in the next few days, Nelson is likely to get a look in as Trossard’s injury almost certainly rules him out of the first leg.

Nelson feels like he has been with the club for an eternity, and after several loan spells away, he could finally see his time in the sun with the Gunners.

A new contract would be the due reward for a young player still making his way in the game and who has an uncanny knack for producing when he needs to.
