3 standout players from emphatic win over Fulham

2. Thomas Partey
The game against Fulham was further evidence of one simple fact: when fit and firing, Thomas Partey is the best midfielder in the Premier League. The Ghanaian combines the work-rate and defensive nous of a midfield destroyer, the agility and press resistance of a technical box-to-box player and the passing of a more attacking midfielder. He was instrumental in Arsenal playing through Fulham’s press.
Comfortable playing on the half-turn, Partey always made himself available in the build-up phase. He moves the ball quickly, firing into Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka or the forward line. His speed of thought and execution allowed Arsenal to attack while the Fulham defence was out of shape.
The midfielder also played his part defensively, tracking back and making interceptions and blocks when necessary to secure the clean sheet. And who can forget that beautiful Cruyff turn in the second half? His elegance on the ball is what sets him apart from other defensive midfielders.
Jorginho’s January transfer provides more security for Partey. In games where Arsenal are as dominant as they were against Fulham, Mikel Arteta should look to pull Partey for the former Chelsea man earlier. A healthy Thomas Partey is simply unplayable.
