Arsenal’s impressive London derby dominance continues
Arsenal not only produced one of their most impressive performances of a scintillating campaign at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon, but they also made a little bit of history.
It was a procession for the league leaders in west London as first-half goals from Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard – all teed up by Leandro Trossard – set the Gunners on their way to victory.
Fulham huffed and puffed in the second period, but the visitors preserved their clean sheet which meant they became the first side in English Football League history to win five away London derbies in a row without conceding a goal.
Arsenal’s impressive London derby dominance continues
Mikel Arteta’s side are continuing to mesmerise, and their record-breaking triumph on Sunday saw them re-establish their lead over Man City at the Premier League summit to five points. They’ve barely missed a beat in Gabriel Jesus’ absence, and the Gunners will have the Brazilian back for the final portion of the season after he came off the bench against Fulham for his first Arsenal appearance since November.
It was a wonderful day for Arsenal with Jesus returning, their attackers purring, and Arteta celebrating his 100th win as Gunners boss.
The club’s stellar pre-season hinted that this campaign might be a little bit special, but very few projected this.
Arsenal have been dominant so far this term, with their supremacy on the road in London derbies highlighting their majesty. They opened the season with an efficient 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace and produced stellar performances to beat Brentford and Chelsea away from home during the first half of the season.
North London rivals Tottenham were next to feel Arsenal’s wrath in a January mismatch before their victory over Fulham saw Arteta’s side make history.
This is a remarkable feat and further depiction of just how good this team is. They were majestic in the opening 45 minutes at Craven Cottage against an albeit Joao Paulinha-less Fulham, but their superiority was so stark that not even the Portuguese international would’ve been able to stem the flow.
Another London derby awaits next Sunday as Palace visit the Emirates, and they’ll have the chance to complete the set when they take on West Ham at the London Stadium on 16 April.
