Arsenal vs Crystal Palace preview: Prediction, team news & lineups
Supporters will quickly forget Arsenal’s Europa League exit should the Gunners get the job done against Crystal Palace and extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points heading into the international break.
Thursday night was a rare bleak one in Arsenal’s stellar 2022/23 campaign up to this point. Pegged back by an outrageous Pedro Goncalves strike after taking the lead, Mikel Arteta’s side were then beaten by Sporting CP on penalties which saw them exit Europe prematurely.
Cognitive dissonance was rife among the fanbase in the aftermath as many claimed they cared little about the club’s continental ventures given their current domestic standing.
With Man City in FA Cup action, Sunday is a huge opportunity to pile the pressure on the Citizens heading into the final stretch of the season. They’ll be taking on a Crystal Palace side without a manager after they opted to sack Patrick Vieira on Friday. The Eagles are winless in 2023, and they’ve failed to score in their last four outings.
What could possibly go wrong, eh?

Arsenal team news
The Gunners suffered a double injury blow on Thursday night as both Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba were forced off in the first half. Saliba’s status for Sunday is unknown, while Tomiyasu is almost certainly out.
Gabriel Jesus started his first game since November against Sporting but Leandro Trossard is set to return to the XI on Sunday. The Belgian will be flanked by Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, with Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey replacing Fabio Vieira and Jorginho in midfield.
Crystal Palace team news
Whoever takes charge of the visitors this weekend will be without Albert Sambi Lokonga, who is ineligible to face his parent club. Will Huges will likely replace the Belgian in Palace’s midfield, while James McArthur is a doubt through illness.
In goal, Joe Whitworth is poised to make back-to-back starts with both Vicente Guaita and Sam Johnstone out injured.

Prediction
Palace are without a manager and winless in 2023, but I’ve just got a bad feeling about this one. The Eagles are unbeaten on their last four visits to the Emirates, and they’re quickly approaching desperation mode in the fight for survival.
Arsenal slogged out a 120-minute duel on Thursday night and while Arteta is blessed with a deep enough squad to cope, I fear we could see a rather lethargic performance on Sunday. Saliba’s absence will be a massive blow both with and without the ball, and Wilfried Zaha will fancy his chances against the Gunners’ right side should the Frenchman be absent.
For all their woes, Palace’s defensive record is pretty good. They’ve conceded just four goals in their last five and recently frustrated Man City before Michael Olise gave away a penalty in the closing stages.
Many suspect the hosts will cruise on Sunday, but I don’t think that’ll be the case.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Crystal Palace
