Saka will get the headlines for his important goals against Palace, but Ben White’s impact in those goals and beyond cannot be overstated. The injuries against Sporting means White will stay at right back for the remainder of the season.

While he has played right back since the start of the campaign, he was on another level on Sunday.

Marshalling Wilfred Zaha while also contributing to the attack is a tall ask for any player. White did so with ease. The Ivorian’s influence was limited thanks to White. The right-back was exceptional further up the pitch as well. He slid perfectly weighted balls into Saka time and again, assisting his first goal and being dangerous throughout. His combination play with Martin Odegaard was also encouraging to see.

The security White provided when defending and the impetus he offered while attacking allowed Arsenal to suffocate Crystal Palace. All he needs to do is cut out his occasional moment of recklessness, as his unnecessary booting of the ball for a corner ruined Aaron Ramsdale’s clean sheet. The next two weeks will be a welcome reward for White’s recent showings.

Perhaps the most of any Arsenal player, he has earned a much-deserved break.

The players put in a magnificent shift against a team that has given them problems in recent years. They showed their willingness and ability to bounce back. Both the performance and scoreline reflected utter domination. Hopefully, this form continues after the break.10 finals to go.
