Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has retired from professional football at the age of 34.

The German playmaker enjoyed a stellar career, achieving success with the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal and the German national team. Here are the attacking midfielder’s top five movements in an Arsenal shirt…

Mesut Ozil’s top 5 Arsenal moments

5. Deadline day arrival (2013)

Ozil’s transfer from Spanish giants Real Madrid was perhaps one of the most famous deals in the Gunners’ history. "“He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.”"

4. Debut vs Sunderland (2013)

His Arsenal debut got off to the perfect start, with the playmaker registering an assist inside the first fifteen minutes – providing us Gooners with a glimpse of the superb technical quality he possessed.

A lot of pundits had questioned whether he had the physicality and robustness needed to thrive in the English Premier League, but he went some way to proving his doubters wrong on that day. Arsenal won that game 3-1, and Ozil was at the heart of almost everything good that we produced.
