Such has been Arsenal’s progress that season that a point away at Anfield is disappointing. Yet with an imperious Manchester City side breathing down their necks, Arsenal cannot afford any more slip-ups. The players must get back to winning ways against West Ham.

The game against West Ham must not be taken lightly. While the Hammers have underperformed this season and are currently languishing only three points above the relegation zone, they still pose a potent threat. Their team has largely remained the same from their impressive previous season. Add to that the support of the home fans and the pressure on Arsenal and we could have a tense affair indeed.

Everyone will need to do their part and execute their role to ensure that Manchester City is not given any more encouragement. A few players are integral to getting the win. Here are three players that are crucial to bouncing back against West Ham.

3. Gabriel

While his new partner in Rob Holding has been discussed ad nauseum, Gabriel continues to fly under the radar. He has been exceptional in almost every game this season. Everything that was once a weakness has been eliminated or strengthened beyond belief.

He has cut out his moments of rash decision-making. He has become secure on the ball, using his passing to maintain or relieve pressure. It was his measured ball through to Leandro Trossard in injury time at Anfield that let Arsenal fans dream as Gabriel Martinelli attempted to play in Bukayo Saka.

Despite the chopping and changing around him, his performances have remained high. Holding has replaced William Saliba, Kieran Tierney has come in for Oleksandr Zinchenko at times and the forwards on his side of the pitch have also been rotated. Yet Gabriel remains a rock at the back.

Against West Ham, he must continue to perform at the level he has displayed. He will face physicality in Michail Antonio and Danny Ings and technical ability in Jarred Bowen and Said Benrahma. As Arsenal press forward to attack, Gabriel must cover the channels and shut down attacks to give his team the best chance of winning. If he plays as he did against Liverpool, fans can rest easy.
