Arsenal desperately needed three points as they hosted bottom-of-the-Premier League Southampton on Friday evening.

The Gunners looked to remind the world of their dominant nature but ultimately failed to achieve the desired result.

Although the young Gunners showed immense heart to battle their way back from an albeit self-dug hole, the title is now embroiled in jeopardy. Here are three things that went wrong for Arsenal against the Saints.

1. Aaron Ramsdale was poor

Arsenal have struggled in the last five games to keep a clean sheet. Fans may go back and forth about whether Rob Holding is to blame, but at least for now, this is not the focus of this point.

Against Liverpool, Arsenal should have taken three points at Anfield. However, if one were shown the last 20 minutes of the fixture, one’s opinion would alter to Arsenal are lucky to escape with a draw. Ramsdale was immense, making fingertip saves to deny the likes of Mo Salah and diving backwards to deny Ibrahima Konate off the goal line.

The keeper has been outstanding all season and deserves no hate for his performance against the Saints. That said, the England International had a poor performance. Within the first minute, he assisted the Saints’ opener. He then conceded a Walcott shot and ultimately failed to keep out a header from a corner. Arsenal fans need to get behind Ramsdale; he will bounce back.
