3 squad players Arsenal should sell in the summer transfer window

3. Rob Holding
Like Elneny, Rob Holding has been influential in the dressing room. Leading by example in terms of professionalism and non-negotiables, Holding has set a strong example for new players and those coming through from Hale End.
Much of Arteta’s early recruitment was done further back on the pitch. New defenders were brought in. The likes of Gabriel, William Saliba and Ben White add physicality in addition to defensive nous and passing ability in the centre-back position. Compared to these three, Holding is woefully short of the developing standard at the club.
The defender is exposed nearly every time he plays. Teams target him in their pressing while revealing his difficulties at defending space. He also adds pressure on his team by hoofing it long or out of play. The opponents get on the ball and come back to attack.
Holding is a solid centre-back. He is simply not suited to the style Arteta has implemented and will continue to improve on. Considering he only cost the club £2m, Arsenal stand to profit on him heavily. Hopefully, they can do so in the summer.
When he first joined the club, Arteta spoke about the level of ruthlessness needed to overhaul a bloated squad. He has continued to show this side in recent years. Every window sees quality players enter and deficient players leave. While the squad is significantly more streamlined, he must continue to make tough sales.
