Arsenal 0-3 Brighton: Player ratings as Seagulls dash Gunners’ title hopes
Arsenal’s title hopes all but faded on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 3-0 on home soil by an excellent Brighton side.
It was a nullification game in the first half as both teams dominated without the ball. There were, however, chances at both ends but the two sides went into the break all-square.
Brighton, who impressed in the opening period, took their game to another level after the break and deservedly went in front through Julio Enciso after some questionable Gunners defending. The opener only emboldened the visitors, who proceeded to enjoy their afternoon in north London.
The Seagulls purred at the Emirates, and they added a second to crush Arsenal’s title hopes in the closing stages as a build-up error led to substitute Deniz Undav lobbing his effort over Aaron Ramsdale.
A mournful conclusion to the contest followed as supporters, many of whom departed after Undav’s goal, came to the sobering reality that the Premier League title was now well and truly out of their reach. A misery-compounding Pervis Estupinan strike ensued in stoppage time as Brighton ran out 3-0 victors.
Man City now need two points from their final three games to win the league. It’s done.
Arsenal 0-3 Brighton player ratings
Here are the Arsenal player ratings from the 2-0 defeat at home to Brighton.
Goalkeeper & Defenders
Aaron Ramsdale (GK) – 4.5/10 – Another game without a home clean sheet for Ramsdale, who didn’t cover himself in glory for the third goal.
Ben White (RB) – 3.5/10 – White did not enjoy the Kaoru Mitoma experience.
Jakub Kiwior (CB) – 4.5/10 – I know he was trodden on, but you can’t just stop in the six-yard box like that. A shame because Kiwior was otherwise sturdy.
Gabriel (CB) – 6/10 – Saw plenty of the physically impressive Evan Ferguson and largely got the better of him when they duelled. A pretty controlled showing.
Kieran Tierney (LB) – 4.5/10 – Oleksandr Zinchenko’s importance manifested on Sunday afternoon as the Gunners struggled to gain any control in the absence of the Ukrainian. While Tierney wasn’t tested too much defensively, he offered very little in possession. Only rarely did he venture forward.
