Arsenal’s title dream is now all but over after a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.

It always felt like an arduous task to recover from a brutal three-week stretch where Arsenal drew three consecutive games, and thus matching the Manchester City juggernaut proved too much.

Three second-half goals from Brighton put a firm full stop on any lingering hopes of Arsenal usurping City in devastating fashion.

It was a brutal way for the title race to end as City now need just two points (due to their vastly superior goal difference) from three games to be crowned champions as Arsenal gave everything, but it wasn’t enough.

The game provided plenty of talking points; here they are.

1. Gunners fall short in a devastating manner

After City’s 3-0 demolition of Everton prior to the start of Arsenal’s game, many could feel the air get sucked out of the Emirates pre-game. Such was the thought that the Toffees could get something from the contest, the fact it was a cakewalk for City was disheartening.

Credit to Brighton, however. After an evenly-matched first half, the visitors puffed out their chest in the second period and put Arsenal to the sword, scoring three goals.

It wasn’t the afternoon many had envisioned, and it revealed what many had suspected for the last few weeks. It is now City’s title.
