3 players from Southampton Arsenal should sign

2. Carlos Alcaraz
The Arsenal performances in recent weeks have shown a lack of impetus and explosiveness in attack along with a porousness in defence. Arsenal could solve the former with the signing of Carlos Alcaraz. The little-known Argentinian became known to Arsenal fans when he scored the opener against them in the 3-3 draw. Beyond this, he has shown glimpses of his potential.
Still only 20 years old, Alcaraz is also new to the Premier League. He signed for Southampton in January and has already scored four goals and notched one assist in 17 games. What makes this return even more impressive is that he plays in midfield as opposed to further up the pitch.
Arteta’s system has been marked by an ability for goals to come from anywhere. Not only do the forwards look to score, but midfielders and defenders do as well. Both Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard have received plaudits for their goalscoring this season. Alcaraz would supplement these options well while adding an aerial threat. Despite only standing 5’9, he has shown a propensity to get on the ends of crosses more than might be expected.
While Alcaraz’s signing would be risky considering his lack of experience, it might be worth taking a risk on another young player with the potential to become a star.

1. Roméo Lavia
When Southampton players are brought up, the first one to come to mind is Roméo Lavia and for good reason. The youngster has been outstanding for the now-relegated side. Deployed as a central defensive midfielder, he ticks all the boxes Arsenal desire.
Lavia is athletic, using his mobility to cover large parts of the pitch. He is also technically gifted, using his agility and close control to turn out of danger. All of these talents are crucial but his passing cannot be overlooked. Lavia boasts an impressive passing range and has shown to be progressive in his selection.
Still only 19, there is no doubt that he has the potential to become Arsenal’s midfield anchor for a decade or more. Starting regularly for a Premier League side indicates his level and he will certainly be scooped up. Hopefully, it can be Arsenal that does so.
Arsenal have recruited well in the past few seasons, rarely paying over the odds as they did in the past. While flashy names might excite fans, signing players from relegated sides remains a viable strategy. Arsenal should look to take advantage of the quality present in those sides. The three players listed above would be a good place to start.
