Arsenal’s 2022/23 season concludes on Sunday afternoon as they host Wolves at the Emirates.

Tickets for this contest were once being sold at an extortionate price when it looked as if the Gunners would be hoisting the Premier League title aloft following the contest’s conclusion. However, a stuttering end to the season combined with a vintage Man City run has seen the Citizens waltz to their third-straight league title.

There are parallels compared to last season as we celebrate what’s been an exceptional campaign for Mikel Arteta’s side. A poor end to 2021/22 meant their final-day encounter with Everton on home soil was a damp squib, and both Arsenal and Wolves are playing for very little this weekend.

Arsenal team news

Arteta made a couple of changes to his side at Forest last Saturday with Jakub Kiwior and Thomas Partey being deployed at full-back. The Spaniard’s switches facilitated greater control, but the Gunners fell flat in the final third.

Ben White and Kiwior should return to more familiar roles for Wolves’ visit, with Kieran Tierney coming back into the XI amid Oleksandr Zinchenko’s absence.

There are no fresh injury concerns heading into Sunday’s bout with Granit Xhaka poised to receive an emotional send-off by the Emirates faithful.

Reiss Nelson deserves a start in attack, but Arteta will likely make no changes to his frontline.

Wolves team news

The visitors have no fresh injury concerns with Ruben Neves potentially playing his last game for the club.

Adama Traore and Diego Costa are both in contention for starts, with Sasa Kalajdzic still out with a cruciate ligament injury,

Prediction

Arsenal were in dreamland the last time they faced Wolves. A 2-0 victory at Molineux left the Gunners five points clear at the top of the table heading into the World Cup break.

A more sombre feeling prevails now, however; especially after last weekend’s pitiful defeat at Nottingham Forest. Arsenal barely laid a glove on the Forest backline, and Arteta will be desperate for his side to put on a show this weekend – just as they did to conclude the 2021/22 season.

Wolves are a more stubborn outfit under Julen Lopetegui, but their away form is wretched. They haven’t won away from Molineux since 11 February – which came against Nathan Jones’ Southampton.

Thus, Arteta’s side have a good chance of finishing the season off in style this weekend. While I wouldn’t trust this defence to keep anybody out at the moment, the hosts should still win comfortably.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Wolves
