4. Emile Smith Rowe

The sky once appeared to be the limit for Smith Rowe, but 2022/23 has certainly tempered expectations regarding the creative midfielder’s potential in north London.

The player’s form at the start of the 2021/22 season earned him an England call-up, but 2022 proved to be the toughest year of Smith Rowe’s blossoming young career. Groin surgery has rendered the current campaign a frustrating one, with Arteta often refusing to give the 22-year-old minutes once he returned to full fitness.

Questions have been raised over his future as a result, and news of Reiss Nelson’s contract extension doesn’t bode well for Smith Rowe.

It’d be a shame to see him depart given the majesty he displayed for the club in 2021, but if Arteta doesn’t trust the crafty midfielder, then there’s no point in having him around. Hopefully, he takes to the field on Sunday and forces a rethink.
