2. Martin Odegaard (Average rating – 7.2)

Many have been quick to crown either Saka or Martin Odegaard as their Player of the Season, but neither tops our ranking.

Like so many of Arsenal’s young guns, 2022/23 was a coming-of-age season for Odegaard in his first campaign as captain. While he’s proven himself to be a fine leader, the Nordic magician so often leads from the front with his stellar performances both with and without the ball.

He’s a relentless presser, but oh-so-subtle in possession. Odegaard’s the creative phenom within Arteta’s framework, and his availability renders him invaluable. He’s rarely absent.

While some have questioned his capacity to perform when it matters most, the skipper hushed many doubters with his magnificent showing at St. James’ Park in May. Sure, he might have the odd bad day, but Odegaard was a figure of mercurial consistency in 2022/23.

He ended the season with a joint Premier League record of 15 goals – two shy of Dele Alli and Matt Le Tissier’s all-time competition high of 17.
