#3: Arsenal might be better off with a different midfield profile

Granit Xhaka thrived in an advanced position this season even with attacking limitations, and his imminent departure may encourage us to pursue a more naturally offensive successor.

The boss has trialled two forward-minded 8s on occasion and it is a duty to which Caicedo could similarly adapt given both his impressive passing range and industry. But he is far from being a major creative force and sharp defensive instincts suggest he would not help team reach its full frontline potential, with a ready-made attacker perhaps more desirable to capitalise on the many chances we fashion.

Our outgoing general offered a control and security in possession that is important even for adventurous no. 8s, but proficiency around the opposition box is another crucial skill and Caicedo might not be the best option to provide it.
