Nobody can doubt how instrumental Thomas Partey has been in Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta, but heading into the summer, there are doubts over where his future lies.

Injuries have blighted the midfielder’s time in north London, although he appeared to have gotten over the injury hump in 2022/23 as he consistently dominated at the base of Arteta’s midfield amid Arsenal’s title charge.

However, fitness woes once again manifested at the end of the season, with his performance levels dropping considerably as the boss favoured the greater security Jorginho provides in the build-up phase.

Despite a strong end to the season in an unusual role against a dire Wolves team, there are murmurs that the club, who are expected to shuffle their midfield pack this summer, could let the 30-year depart.

1. Milan

A pair of Italian clubs are said to be interested in signing Partey, but deciphering who those are is tricky.

Stanislav Lobotka is coming off an excellent season at Napoli, Jorginho is reportedly of interest to Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, Inter are more likely to target a Nicolo Barella replacement in Davide Frattesi, while Atalanta doesn’t seem like a feasible spot for the Ghanaian. Roma could get themselves in the mix, but I think Milan could do with a player like Partey.

Stefano Pioli isn’t short of pivot options, but Ismael Bennacer could be on the move this summer, while Sandro Tonali endured a down year after an excellent 2021/22. Given his prowess in a double pivot, Partey would be a great option for Pioli, and I have no doubt the 30-year-old would thrive in Italy.
