Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has been on an upward trajectory unlike anything we have seen, and now, he has been named the best winger in world football by ESPN.

We are beginning to run out of superlatives for Bukayo Saka, and his latest achievement is due reward for the hard work he has put in since coming up through the ranks of our famous Hale End academy.

After breaking into the first team during the 2019/20 season, Saka has been improving out of sight ever since. He had his career-best season last year as he notched 14 league goals to go along with his 11 assists.

He was unplayable at times last season, and such was his influence on games we saw repeated efforts to stop him by opposing defenders that were simply astonishing. Well, that might rachet up a notch now, as ESPN has named Saka the best winger in the world.

"“The events of the defining moments of the Euro 2020 final could have broken other young players, but Saka did not allow himself to be significantly affected by the vitriol that came his way,” ESPN wrote. “Instead, supported by his teammates, the young London native further worked on his craft, developing into the best winger in football today. He was a major factor in Arsenal leading the Premier League for five months, and it was definitely not his fault that the north London side ended up conceding the lead to Manchester City in the final weeks of the season.”"

Arsenal now has the best winger in world football in its ranks, and quite frankly, we aren’t surprised. Saka was, for many, the best winger in the Premier League last season.

And now the world.

He beat out the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (No.2), Jack Grealish (No.3), Ousmane Dembele (No.4), Gabriel Martinelli (No.5), Riyad Mahrez (No.6), Kingsley Coman (No.7), Rodrygo (No.8), Phil Foden (No.9) and Moussa Diaby rounding out the list.

Having Saka as the leading man feels like vindication for everything our starboy has been through over the last couple of seasons, and now he will look to take his game to the next level.

It does feel odd to have a player named the best in the world in an Arsenal shirt; such has been the rollercoaster ride fans have been on the last decade or so, but times are changing in north London and definitely for the better.

Bukayo Saka is the best winger in the world…it has a nice ring to it.
