How William Saliba’s new salary compares to Arsenal teammates

The good news keeps on coming in north London.

Kai Havertz is already through the door and he’ll soon be joined by Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber with both of their medicals scheduled for Friday after Arsenal agreed deals with West Ham and Ajax respectively.

A period of serenity is now expected on the transfer front, but the club have still been active on the squad-building front. Following their early summer blitz, Reiss Nelson’s contract extension was announced on Thursday and William Saliba’s new deal is expected to follow on Friday.

The terms of the Frenchman’s four-year deal, reported by David Ornstein as not including an option to extend by another year, have been laid out and here’s how his new salary compares to his fellow squad members.

Ornstein writes that Saliba will now earn a salary of £10m once his extension is in the books which roughly equates to £192,000-a-week.

Presuming that figure’s accurate, Saliba will become Arsenal’s sixth-highest-paid player. Kai Havertz now tops the charts with his staggering weekly wage of £330,000, while Gabriel Jesus (£265,000), Thomas Partey (£200,000) and Bukayo Saka (£195,000) also top the Frenchman.

Rice will reportedly earn £250,000-a-week in north London, which slides him into third in the salary rankings.

Saliba, who was previously bringing in a weekly wage of £40,000, the same as Rob Holding and Emile Smith Rowe, is expected to be fine for the club’s summer plans after missing the final two months of the 2022/23 season due to a back injury. While his absence alone wasn’t the reason Arsenal failed to lift the Premier League title, it was a major reason as to why they faded down the stretch.

The defender enjoyed an excellent season, and tying him down for the long haul has been a key objective for months. Saliba’s hefty pay rise is reflective of his significance to Mikel Arteta’s project, and Arsenal will undoubtedly feel that the 22-year-old is worth every penny.
