Wow. What a start Arsenal have made to the summer transfer window.

An early spending spree has been followed up by the contract extensions of William Saliba and Reiss Nelson, now it’s time to sell.

In this mini-series, we’ll run through the position groups (excluding goalkeepers) and list several players that the Gunners should consider parting ways with this summer – via loan or permanently.

3 forwards Arsenal should sell this summer

To wrap up this series, let’s discuss the forwards.

1. Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal’s former record signing was nothing short of a major flop in north London despite enjoying a fairly productive second season at the club. Much of his good work came in the Europa League.

His days were numbered as soon as Mikel Arteta arrived at the helm, with the Ivorian’s flaws out of possession rendering him untenable for the Spaniard’s project. Pepe was also quickly outshone by Bukayo Saka after the young Englishman was given a chance to shine down the Gunners’ right.

While obviously a gifted footballer, Pepe’s lagged behind while Arteta’s project has accelerated, and his loan spell at Nice last season offered little to suggest he’s ready to compete with Saka for serious first-team minutes for a title-chasing Arsenal side.

The Gunners will surely seek a permanent sale this summer, but they must be prepared to take a mammoth loss on the £72m they splurged to sign him four years ago.
