Those pesky Seagulls are at it again.

Arsenal have a fair bit of recent history with Brighton, and the pair locked horns in the January transfer window in negotiations for midfielder Moises Caicedo. However, it was Tony Bloom who prevailed as the Ecuadorian remained on the south coast despite strong Gunners interest.

Now, Brighton look set to beat Arsenal to the signing of versatile Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus. While the north London club weren’t exactly strongly linked with the Ghanaian, he’s been mentioned in various circles as a player the Gunners could make a move for to increase their depth in an array of attacking positions.

Chelsea were also eyeing the Ajax star.

Brighton’s recruitment has been crucial to their rise and this would represent another incredible bit of business if the Seagulls are able to pull it off.

According to David Ornstein, Arsenal are set to miss out on Kudus after Brighton agreed a club-record deal with Ajax worth €40m for the player’s services. The deal’s not done yet, with the 23-year-old yet to agree personal terms with the Seagulls.

Missing out on Kudus would be a blow for the Gunners given his versatility and the club’s need to bring in perhaps one more quality addition to bolster Mikel Arteta’s forward line, especially given Gabriel Jesus’ injury woes. Kudus could perform myriad functions in the Spaniard’s set-up.

However, it seems as if the club have favoured a move for David Raya as opposed to another attacker. With Matt Turner nearing the exit door, it looks as if that deal could progress pretty quickly.

There’s still plenty of work to be done on the outgoings front, too. A big clearout was expected in north London, especially after their early spending spree, but Arsenal have so far only sold Granit Xhaka, Pablo Mari, and Aaron Trusty. If the club are to return to the market later on in the window, they must add some names to the departures lounge.
