Arsenal managed to defeat Manchester City 4-1 on penalties to lift the Community Shield for the 17th time, and Mikel Arteta loved every second of it.

It was the perfect way to end the pre-season and begin the new campaign as Arsenal got a psychological boost over Manchester City.

While the Community Shield victory won’t have any impact on the Premier League season, try telling that to Mikel Arteta, who was over the moon that his side came away with a victory at Wembley.

"“I’m extremely happy, proud and relieved at the same time, because it doesn’t get any better than winning at Wembley in front of your fans and playing the best team in the world,” Arteta said via the club’s official site. “Winning it the way we did it, I’m extremely happy.”"

Arsenal had to calm the City storm in the first 30 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s side started strong, but Arteta’s side grew into the contest. When Cole Palmer’s curling effort put City into the lead with only 15 minutes remaining, the Gunners never lost faith.

That was rewarded in injury time as Leandro Trossard’s deflected shot went past Stefan Ortega and into the net. Of course, we then know what happened as Arsenal slotted home all four penalties to claim the shield.

With the fans riding high as the first piece of silverware has been claimed, attention now turns to Nottingham Forest at the Emirates to open the League season.

For Arteta, while it is important to celebrate the Community Shield win, attention will swiftly focus to Saturday as the Premier League season gets underway.

“The energy is great, the positivity around the place, you feel the happiness around everybody at the club. Let’s enjoy the day and then tomorrow, let’s go back to work because, on Saturday, it will be a very different, but very tough match as well.”

The ‘real’ work starts this weekend for Arsenal, and with the feel-good factor well and truly back, I expect the Emirates to be rocking as the club looks to get the season off to a fantastic start.
