Ah, it’s good to be back… or is it. For Arsenal supporters, Friday night was a sobering reminder of the juggernaut they’ll have to overcome if they’re to lift their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Manchester City made light work of an exuberant Burnley in the opening game of the 2023/24 season as they go in search of their fourth-straight league title – a feat never achieved before in the English game.

While City remain imperious, the hunt for their crown is bound to be enthralling amid yet another season of typical Premier League thrills and spills.

PITA’s 2023/24 Premier League predictions

Sure, we’re a little bit late, but I don’t think one contest did much to alter anything. Here are the PITA predictions for the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Winner: Man City – I promise I had City to win the title before they put three past Burnley on opening night. I don’t think this is going to be the best iteration of Pep’s Cityzens, but they’ll do enough to claim an unprecedented fourth-straight title.

Top 4: Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd – The Gunners will run City close, but I suspect the top four will be more condensed this time around. Liverpool’s business has convinced me they’ll improve pretty drastically, although they desperately need a #6, while United have also bought well and they should retain their top-four status.

Golden Boot: Erling Haaland – The boring, safe choice, I know, but who’s going to knock Haaland off his perch with Harry Kane wreaking havoc in Bavaria?

Relegated teams: Sheffield Utd, Luton, Fulham – Sheffield United are a banker for the drop, but I think Luton might make a good fist of survival. Nevertheless, their lack of talent will cost them in the end. I’m concerned about Wolves and Forest, but I’m going rogue for my final relegation spot. Fulham surprised many last season, but I suspect they might succumb to second-season syndrome. Much depends on the futures of the manager and their star striker.

Surprise package: Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth – Gary O’Neil did an excellent job to keep the Cherries up last season, but I understand why the club parted ways. They want to go to the ‘next level’, whatever that may be, and I think Iraola’s the man to guide them up the table. I love some of their summer business, and they’re bound to entertain. Mid-table beckons.
