After Arsenal confirmed the signing of David Raya earlier this week, their attentions now turn to outgoings and one player they’re hoping to offload is Nuno Tavares.

Signed from Benfica in the summer of 2021 for a small fee, Tavares endured a rather chaotic debut season in north London. While he showed his impressive attacking talent, the adventurous left-back never quite garnered the trust of Mikel Arteta and he certainly didn’t seem an ideal fit for the Spaniard’s project.

Although, there was certainly raw talent to work with and the club hoped he’d develop out on loan at Marseille. Tavares’ spell in France produced mixed results, with similar strengths and weaknesses manifesting as they did in north London. Overall, he didn’t do enough to convince the boss and the Gunners are now looking to part ways with the 23-year-old.

There has been some interest in the enterprising left-back this summer, although Arsenal haven’t appeared close to a sale.

On Wednesday, though, Fabrizio Romano reported that Nottingham Forest, who just signed Matt Turner from the Gunners, have submitted a ‘formal proposal’ to sign Tavares permanently this summer.

While Romano said the deal was on, there hasn’t been an update from him since.

Other outlets speculate interest from elsewhere, with West Ham and Galatasaray supposedly also keen. Interestingly, too, the Evening Standard writes that Arsenal are hoping to garner £22m from the player’s sale. That’d be an incredible fee given the Gunners paid just £8m for him two years ago.

However, the riches of Premier League clubs mean we shouldn’t be so surprised that they’re willing to pay over the odds to get what they want. While Forest appear to be the current front-runners for Tavares’ signature, Arsenal will hope West Ham get involved and potentially drive up the unwanted defender’s price.
