We’re approaching the final 48 hours of the Premier League summer transfer window, yet it feels as if so much still needs to happen.

While Arsenal were swift and, to an extent, efficient in bringing in Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and David Raya, it’s been much more of a struggle offloading unwanted assets. However, they were able to ship Kieran Tierney on loan to Real Sociedad, while Folarin Balogun is close to completing his permanent departure to AS Monaco. Nuno Tavares is also set to join Nottingham Forest on loan.

The Gunners have undoubtedly made strides in shipping apparent deadwood, but you get the feeling more could depart before the end of the window.

1. Rob Holding

Scapegoated by many amid Arsenal’s demise down the stretch last season, Holding is now Arsenal’s second longest-serving senior player following Granit Xhaka’s departure. However, the club are hoping to sell the defender before the deadline slams shut.

Despite the club’s defensive injuries, Holidng is unlikely to feature at all for the Gunners in the Premier League and Champions League, with his only opportunities likely to arise in the domestic cup competitions.

A whole host of clubs have been linked with Holding’s services, from Premier League clubs to Besiktas. I have absolutely no idea where he could end up, but Arsenal’s defensive depth would look incredibly thin if they were to let him go. Perhaps the Gunners might be eyeing up a defender of their own before the window closes?
