The Portuguese midfielder had an up-and-down season during his first at Arsenal. This year, he has hit another level. The intensity, decisiveness and overall air of confidence have reached new heights, as seen in his two appearances off the bench.

Against Fulham, Viera came on, won a penalty and provided a superb assist for Eddie Nketiah. Against Manchester United, he almost did the same, setting up Jesus’ dagger by playing an excellent ball in stride for the striker to latch onto.

With Havertz’s struggles and unfortunate confidence issues, it may be best to swap the two players, allowing the German to integrate into the squad in a more protected way – perhaps mirroring the path of Vieira
