Arsenal have submitted their 25-man List A squad for the 2023/24 Champions League group stages.

The Gunners are back in the big time after a six-year hiatus, last competing in Europe’s premier club competition in the 2016/17 season. It’s been a rocky road since then, but Mikel Arteta’s project has ascended the club back into a realm where it belongs.

After coming ever so close to securing a top-four finish in 2021/22, Arsenal exceeded all expectations the following campaign and challenged Manchester City for the title, eventually finishing second.

That meant Arteta’s side were in the group stage draw which took place earlier this month and the Gunners were paired alongside Sevilla, PSV and Lens in Group B. It’s a group many expect Arsenal to win.

The next task for Arteta and company was selecting a 25-man squad for the upcoming group games. UEFA rules regarding squad selection are strict, with the Gunners needing to include eight ‘locally trained players’ in their List A squad. These are defined as ‘club-trained players who were on a club’s books for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21’.

Despite the strict rules, there were no major shocks in Arsenal’s squad selection. The club opted against including the injured Jurrien Timber, but there was a spot for Cedric Soares. Youngsters Lino Sousa and James Hillson also made the List A squad.

Here’s Arsenal’s 25-man List A squad for the Champions League group stages:

  • Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya, James Hillson
  • Defenders: Cedric, Lino Sousa, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White, Gabriel, Jakub Kiwior, William Saliba
  • Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Fabio Vieira, Emile Smith Rowe
  • Forwards: Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Jesus

All competing teams will also submit a List B squad ahead of each matchday which can be filled with Under-21 players. An unlimited number of players can be included on this list.
