Arsenal claimed their first win at Goodison Park since 2017 as Leandro Trossard’s goal meant Everton were downed 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

It was a first half of little action, although the Gunners thought they’d taken the lead midway through it when Gabriel Martinelli raced through and coolly slotted beyond Jordan Pickford. However, the Brazilian’s effort was contentiously ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

The visitors upped the tempo in the final third and came close to opening the scoring right after the restart. However, Pickford smartly denied Martin Odegaard.

Eventually, Arsenal’s pressure told and they took the lead through a fantastic Leandro Trossard finish following a smart short corner routine. The Gunners’ improvement after half-time meant they were good value for their lead against a pretty flat Everton side, and they then sought to end the contest.

A second goal didn’t arrive, though, with the visitors instead deciding to see out the contest which they did without much danger.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) – 6.5/10 – A surprise inclusion and had very little to do on his Arsenal debut. Claimed the high ball with confidence and had no issues on the ball.

Ben White (RB) – 6.5/10 – Used the ball pretty well and was effective on the overlap at times. Wasn’t tested much defensively.

William Saliba (CB) – 8/10 – Everton’s woeful use of the ball meant Beto rarely met him in the channels and Saliba dealt with the striker’s in-behind threat with ease.

Gabriel (CB) – 8/10 – Excelled in the duel against the Everton forwards and showcased that he is competent in possession with a few raking passes.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) – 7/10 – Few sloppy moments in the first half, but improved after the break and constantly sought to penetrate the Everton defence with cute passes over the top.
