For Arsenal, winning at Goodison Park has not come easy.

The past two seasons, the Gunners came to Everton hoping to catapult their season but fell short. Arsenal had not won at Goodison Park for six years until Sunday, with the victory perhaps foreshadowing what may come for the Gunners in 2023/24.

Winning 1-0 at a historic ground against a side that had no intentions of coming out of their low block at all was pretty impressive.

3 observations from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison Park

Here are three takeaways from the match with Everton.

1. The Gunners are an established Premier League giant again

The Gunners surprised a lot of sides last season with their tactics and formations which meant scoring was a lot easier to come by. Now, teams are playing deeper and making it more difficult for the Gunners to score goals. That may feel like a new thing to a side that is used to playing fluid football with pace.

For much of Sunday’s match, Arsenal controlled possession without creating many high-quality chances and that is because Everton were not interested in having an open match. The best teams in Europe, however, find a way to create just one or two moments that transform one point into three.

Manchester City has gotten this treatment for years and they continued to score at will, and it’ll take time for Arsenal to evolve into a side boasting such proficiency.
