2. Declan Rice

Another game, another appearance in my standouts for Declan Rice.

A goal-line clearance, composed in possession and immense out of possession. The Englishman barely put a foot wrong today and even played a role in the goal.

What I particularly loved about his performance today were his incredible ball recoveries. Any time a player in Sky Blue showed him a tiny bit too much of the ball, one of his long legs would stretch to nick it away.

He was such a calming and reassuring presence all game and I don’t think Jorginho would have had such a good game with any other midfielder next to him. To perform that well next to the Italian and an underperforming Martin Odegaard is a real testament to Rice’s immense quality.

With every game that he plays in, £105m seems like more and more of a bargain, especially compared to players like Moises Caicedo.
