Reports suggest Ben White will be the next star of the Mikel Arteta project to pen a contract extension with Arsenal.

The Gunners’ recent rise under Arteta from laughing stock to title contenders has seen many key components of the project extend their deals in north London. Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba have all signed fresh long-term contracts in the past year.

The club are now hoping to tie down White for the long haul.

A few eyebrows were raised when £50m was splurged to sign White from Brighton, but the Englishman quickly became a hit. After a sound debut campaign, White was thrust into an unfamiliar right-back role for the 2022/23 season and he hasn’t looked back.

The 26-year-old starred for Arsenal last term as they went in search of the title, with his unique profile making him an excellent fit for the right-back position. White established a deadly dynamic with Bukayo Saka and even produced a clutch moment or two in the final third.

His carefree nature, slick aesthetic and impressive consistency have seen him blossom into a fan’s favourite, and Arsenal supporters will hope they’ll soon have a contract extension to celebrate.

“Arsenal are more than confident to get a new deal done and sealed soon for Ben White,” Fabrizio Romano recently tweeted (via Arsenal Insider). “Negotiations are ongoing since August/September, as reported earlier. White, happy at Arsenal as club want his new contract sealed after Odegaard signed last month.”

The string of new deals means White is currently the club’s 11th-highest earner with Spotrac estimating his weekly wage to be £120,000. His deal doesn’t expire until 2026, but Arsenal are keen to reward White for his stellar form since joining the club. While this is mere speculation, the defender could sign a deal which is worth close to William Saliba’s reported £190,000-a-week.

With transfer talk on the back burner for now, Arsenal’s priority is tying White down for the long term.
