Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal interest in Girona star
With the transfer window approaching, Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal could be in for a new left-back, with Miguel Gutiérrez fitting the bill.
Arsenal are on a mission to strengthen their squad in three crucial positions: left-back, midfielder, and centre-forward. The absences of Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries have prompted Mikel Arteta to seek cover in these areas.
For the centre-forward role, Brentford’s Ivan Toney is on Arsenal’s radar, aiming to bolster their attacking options. Meanwhile, a longstanding target for the midfield position is Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa. Another emerging name in the mix is Miguel Gutiérrez, a left-back currently showcasing his skills at Girona.
The Gunners are reportedly among the Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Girona’s talented left-back, Miguel Gutiérrez.
Since joining Girona from Real Madrid last summer, the 22-year-old has been turning heads with his stellar performances.
Gutiérrez, a key figure in Míchel Sánchez’s impressive team, has started in 11 out of the 12 matches this season, contributing both a goal and an assist. His performances have attracted attention from several English clubs, with Arsenal reportedly emerging as one of the frontrunners in recent weeks.
Arsenal’s defensive concerns, particularly heightened by Jurrien Timber’s injury earlier in the season, have left them with Oleksandr Zinchenko as the sole left-back and Takehiro Tomiyasu serving as an alternative. Consequently, the North London club is exploring potential options in the transfer market, with Gutiérrez catching their eye.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have sent scouts to closely monitor the Spanish defender.
Romano posted on X about Arsenal’s interest in the young left-back.
Despite Gutiérrez being under contract with Girona until 2027, Real Madrid holds a 50% stake in any future sale and has a right of first refusal. However, reports suggest Real Madrid is currently prioritizing Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies for 2024.
