‘Aaron’s lost that smile’ – Ramsdale’s father speaks on Arsenal situation

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been demoted to No. 2 behind David Raya, and his father has revealed how his son is dealing with it.
When Arsenal signed David Raya on loan from Brentford, a collective eyebrow was raised – the Gunners already had a No. 1 keeper in Aaron Ramsdale.
He had done superb things for the Gunners as they chased an unlikely Premier League title and produced several standout moments last season. But now, he’s been relegated to the bench and cup competitions through little fault of his own.

Now, Ramsdale’s father, Nick, who spoke on the Highbury Squad Podcast, detailed how his son has lost his smile after losing the No. 1 job to Raya.
“Aaron is going to be Arsenal’s cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off,” Nick said. “Aaron’s got to live with that and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody. You’ve got to give the guy a chance for God’s sake.
“Even though the way it’s been done, in my eyes, it’s been wrong, and we can talk about that, but it’s the decision. Aaron’s lost that smile too when he was holding onto that ball at this moment in time. And it is difficult. It really is difficult to see him there, and we all keep saying you need to keep smiling.”
For most Arsenal fans, the decision to make Raya the No. 1 keeper was an odd choice, given Ramsdale was part of the squad that got the club to where it is now.
After toiling away last season, many thought Ramsdale would get to enjoy the fruits of his labour in the Champions League this season. Well, that hasn’t come to fruition.
In truth, it almost feels like Arteta has created a problem when there was no reason to, and now that Ramsdale is sitting on the bench, Raya hasn’t exactly been convincing, yet is still between the posts.
The interview is rather interesting, and we highly doubt that anything said will change Arteta’s mind. And in truth, it might even work against Ramsdale as he looks to get back his No. 1 jersey that he should never have lost.
