Well, Jeremy Monga is off to Man City. The 16-year-old, who was once believed to be Arsenal bound, has agreed to join Man City instead. Fabrizio Romano claims that there were long talks with Arsenal, but no breakthrough. New Man City manager Enzo Maresca took advantage of that and proposed a long-term plan for Monga.
Arsenal deliberating in the transfer window is not new. It is simply part of Andrea Berta's 'many spinning plates' method, but this time, it has seriously caught Arsenal out.
So, where do the Gunners look now?
3 Jeremy Monga alternatives for Arsenal to consider
To really address which alternatives Arsenal have to Jeremy Monga, it is important to address where Monga would have fit in if he had signed.
Monga would have been a prospect left-winger, likely playing cup games or rotating late in matches, similar to how Max Dowman operates. He would have probably been in the first team, but not the starting lineup.
Bradley Barcola
Bradley Barcola is more starting-lineup-ready than Jeremy Monga. There are arguments to be had about which player has the highest ceiling, but Barcola is more of a tried-and-tested option, and he could make a difference at Arsenal tomorrow.
Arsenal are expected to progress in their interest in the PSG winger this week. Arsenal have been watching him closely at the World Cup, where France are likely to reach the latter stages of the knockouts, and they've been impressed with him.
What draws Arsenal to Barcola is likely his versatility. His best position is on the left, but he's no stranger to playing on the right or even centrally.
Christos Tzolis
Christos Tzolis is a player already of interest to Arsenal, and he would be available for around the £35 million
Much like Barcola, Tzolis possesses a knack to cut inside. He is essentially an inverted winger, much like what Arsenal are used to with Bukayo Saka on the other side.
Tzolis is ready to step into the Arsenal starting lineup, but whether or not he's signed is a different story. To learn from the Monga mistake, Arsenal must pounce much quicker if they are to sign Tzolis from Club Brugge.
Mika Godts
Ajax has long been a provider of young talents to Europe's super-clubs, and Arsenal should look no further than Mika Godts.
The 21-year-old is flying relatively under the radar, but he has been more than impressive for Ajax.
Godts is impeccable at his 1v1 dribbling ability. He is not a stranger to taking on his man, and that confidence often transcends into successful dribbles.
Like all the other options on this list, Godts is also capable of cutting inside. He is a creative player, one who has all of the traits to make him a star in this Mikel Arteta system. He perhaps isn't as ready as the other two in this list to step into the starting lineup, but he's at least an option more akin to Jeremy Monga's ability.
