Arsenal host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a huge title clash. Mikel Arteta will be looking to achieve a similar result to some of the past matches he has managed against the Reds.

The Spaniard has overseen 14 matches against Liverpool as Gunners boss, winning three, drawing five, and losing six. Two of the draws were penalty shootouts that Arsenal were victorious in.

There are three matches that stand out as Arsenal's best encounters with Liverpool of the Mikel Arteta era and here they are in no particular order.

Mikel Arteta's second game against Liverpool was in the 2020 Community Shield, less than a month after his side's 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Arsenal lifted the trophy after a 5-4 penalty shootout win following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners the lead early on with a stunning curling finish from the edge of the penalty box. Arteta's side put plenty of pressure on Liverpool but couldn't score a second before Takumi Minamino leveled it up to send the game to a shootout. A Rhian Brewster miss presented Aubameyang the chance to win it for his side, and he did just that.

Despite the poor season that followed this win, the match was a sign of things to come under Mikel Arteta. It was a very early glimpse at the work he was set to do as Arsenal manager.
