Positive #3: Defended well

After conceding an early goal, Arsenal defended relatively well throughout most of the game as they limited Palace to little.

The Gunners restricted the Eagles to eight shots, several of which were potshots from well outside the box. Palace were allowed just one big chance throughout the 90 minutes, although they capitalised on that.

William Saliba's half-time introduction helped strengthen things up even more for Arsenal as Palace continued to struggle to create chances. The visitors created an xG of just 0.09 after the break from three shots. Oliver Glasner's side found it hard to even put passes together, accurately playing just 67 out of an attempted 105 (64% accuracy). Despite their early mistake, it was a good defensive performance from Arsenal.

Negative #3: Made things nervy

Arsenal looked to be in cruise control at 3-1 up with five minutes of regular time to play but they certainly made things nervy for themselves.

Palace substitute and ex-Gunners striker Eddie Nketiah reduced the deficit to 3-2 with a great header that put his former side under some pressure.

The close scoreline made Arsenal uncertain, with Mikel Arteta opting to bring on the formidable Gabriel Magalhaes for the final minutes. The nervousness extended to the players, which was evidently shown by Gabriel Jesus, who looked to take the ball to the corner and wind down the clock before the fourth official's board had even gone up. Arsenal made it nervy for themselves in the final minutes against Palace even when there was simply no need to do so.
