Positive #2: Another clean sheet

Arsenal defended well throughout the 90 minutes as they faced plenty of pressure from the opposition. They made four blocks, eight tackles and 18 clearances across the game.

David Raya made a good diving save to prevent a late equaliser for Shakhtar and preserve his clean sheet. It was the Gunners' third shutout in as many Champions League games, being one of only six sides yet to concede in the competition.

Another clean sheet helps Arsenal display their defensive brilliance to the rest of the teams in Europe's elite competition. It should also act as a morale booster as they prepare to face top-scoring Liverpool, having to do so without arguably their best defender, William Saliba.

Negative #2: No Ethan Nwaneri

Many called for Ethan Nwaneri to be handed a start against Shakhtar but the youngster was named on the bench for the tie. While he still had the chance to impress as a substitute, Arteta chose against bringing him on.

It was a poor decision by Arteta to not give Nwaneri any form of involvement against Shakhtar. The Spaniard denied the 17-year-old a great chance to earn some valuable experience in a very tough competition.

Nwaneri is unlikely to be involved against Liverpool given the severity of the game so tonight was a great chance to give him some important playing time. Arteta did poorly not to offer that to the youngster.
