Arsenal lost 1-0 away to Inter on Wednesday night as their unbeaten start to their Champions League campaign came to an end.
A controversially awarded penalty presented the hosts the chance to take the lead on the stroke of half-time. Hakan Calhanoglu dispatched the spot kick for what was ultimately the match winning goal.
It was a tough result for the Gunners to take as they are left with two wins from their last five games. There were three positives and negatives that can be taken from the loss.
Positive #1: Defended well
Despite the defeat, the Gunners put in a good defensive shift against Inter. Mikel Arteta's side did well to hold out, bar on one occasion, one of the most prolific teams in Serie A.
Inter's only goal came through a debatable penalty so Arsenal did particularly well to hold their own against a very good side in an intimidating atmosphere.
The Gunners limited their hosts to just seven shots and one big chance so their defenders can hold their heads high despite falling to a loss in Italy.
Negative #1: A shaky start
The Gunners did not start the game particularly well with the momentum swinging in Inter's favour for the opening 20 minutes. Arteta's side managed to slowly grow into the game only to be 1-0 down at half-time.
Arsenal must start attacking their games from the off as they were lucky not to have been made to pay for being off the pace from kick-off.
The defeat to Inter should act as a lesson to the Gunners that they must be switched on from the first whistle. Every minute of a football game between the first and the final has the potential to be decisive and Arsenal must acknowledge that.
