3 positives & negatives from Arsenal's draw with Liverpool
- The Gunners let two leads slip
- Set pieces scored and conceded
- Key players returned but more injury concerns
Positive #3: Trust in youngsters shown
Mikel Arteta faced criticism for not using Tuesday's game against Shakhtar Donetsk as a chance to use youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, despite the latter coming on as a second-half substitute.
The Spaniard displayed his faith in bringing the pair on against a top Liverpool side. The Gunners boss showed he does indeed have trust in the Hale End duo by using them in such a crucial game. Both took their chances and produced positive cameos.
Oleksandr Zinchenko was available on the bench but Arteta's decision to bring Lewis-Skelly on instead may suggest there has been a shift in the pecking order. It's clear to see why when he and his fellow academy graduate Nwaneri take their chances, just like they did against Liverpool.
Negative #3: Not extending lead
Arsenal took the lead twice in the game but were pegged back on both occasions. Arteta's side did not take their chances to extend their advantage.
The Gunners dominated a lot of the first-half and despite there being a short period between their opener and Liverpool's equaliser, they could not double their advantage. Arsenal then led for most of the second-half and while they were pinned back by the visitors at times, they failed to create any real chances to net a third, which ultimately cost them.
Arteta and his side learned today that they must kill games off when they have the chance with every game and potential win now being crucial in the title race. If they don't, they know they'll be made to pay.
