3 potential Edu replacements for the new Arsenal sporting director
By Kian Long
Arsenal find themselves without a sporting director. This was after the announcement earlier this month that club legend Edu Gaspar would leave his current role, the first man to fulfil the role at Arsenal.
Of course, Edu Gaspar is a well-loved figure at Arsenal. Not only is a club legend and an Arsenal invincible, but he has completely changed the manner in which the club is ran behind closed doors, forming great relationships with the players new and old in the meantime.
Now, Arsenal have big boots to fill. However, the quest to appoint a new sporting director has already begun. Here are 3 names who could replace Edu Gaspar as the new Arsenal sporting director.
3 potential Edu replacements for the new Arsenal sporting director
According to a report from Sky Sports, there are three names currently in consideration by Arsenal to replace Edu Gaspar as the Arsenal sporting director.
1. Luis Campos
The first name considered by Arsenal is Luis Campos. The current football advisor of PSG, Luis Campos, is in the mix to replace Edu at Arsenal.
Campos is only under contract at PSG until the end of the summer, which could suggest why Arsenal are eyeing him right now.
Campos' most notable career achievements to date include highlighting Kylian Mbappe during his time at Monaco and changing PSG's model from overspending to instead spotlighting young talent to sign.
2. Simon Rolfes
Bayer Leverkusen need no introducing to the world. Currently playing in the UEFA Champions League after a tremendous 2023/24 season, Leverkusen are the current champions of the Bundesliga, going the season unbeaten.
Of course, unbeaten is a feeling still held in high regard at Arsenal, hence why they have become interested in Simon Rolfes. Rolfes is the managing director of sport at Bayer Leverkusen, and he is believed to have admirers at Arsenal.
3. Roberto Olabe
Last, but certainly not least, Roberto Olabe is being linked with the Arsenal sporting director job. It makes complete sense that Olabe is linked to the Arsenal job, having already announced he is departing his current role of Real Sociedad sporting director at the end of the season.
Those beady-eyed football fans might recognise a link here. Roberto Olabe has experience of working with Mikel Arteta, as the former manager to Mikel Arteta, during Arteta's early playing days. Therefore, this connection could be reignited in North London.
