Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brighton on Saturday evening as their hopes of keeping the pressure on Liverpool hit another stumbling block.
Ethan Nwaneri opened the scoring for the Gunners inside the first 20 minutes after he was put through on goal by Mikel Merino. A controversial decision by referee Anthony Taylor handed the Seagulls a chance to level proceedings from the penalty spot. Joao Pedro converted to ensure the points were shared at the Amex.
In a game where it was a mixture of showings from the Arsenal squad, there were three standout performers for Mikel Arteta's side.
1. William Saliba
William Saliba was arguably Arsenal's best defender against Brighton, displaying a sense of composure throughout.
The French international was calm and collected when the Seagulls were on the attack and dealt with the pressure from the likes of Joao Pedro well. He will feel hard done by to have conceded a penalty in the circumstances he did. Saliba's simple clash of heads with Pedro was deemed to have been a foul by Anthony Taylor.
Despite the spot kick setback, Saliba didn't let the decision affect him as he remained at his best in defence. He played a key part in securing the point, helping his side keep out Brighton as they looked for a winner in the closing stages. It was certainly a standout showing from the Frenchman.
