Arsenal beat Girona 2-1 on Wednesday night to secure their spot in the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Arnaut Danjuma put the hosts ahead, but a penalty from Jorginho and a stunning finish from Ethan Nwaneri turned it around for the Gunners. Raheem Sterling missed a chance to make it three from the penalty spot in stoppage time but Mikel Arteta's side saw out the remaining minutes to seal the win.

In a game which saw a number of players put in good performances, there were three that stood out among the rest for Arsenal.


1. Ethan Nwaneri

This kid really is special, isn't he? Making his first start in the Champions League, Ethan Nwaneri marked the occasion with a brilliant performance.

The youngster caused plenty of problems for the Girona defence with a number of marauding runs down the wing. His dribbling ability and pace made him a tough force to stop and his quality seriously shined through when he put his side ahead. Nwaneri cut inside and curled a sublime effort into the far corner to make it 2-1 late in the first half.

Nwaneri did not let up in the second half and continued to be a nuisance for the hosts before being taken off in the final few minutes. It was certainly a standout showing from the youngster who showed he is more than capable of playing at this level.
