There are always a few tell-tale signs Martinelli is in the mood for a good game. One of the most obvious is how quickly he'll take a direct route to goal.

Unlike fellow winger Bukayo Saka, who ties defenders in knots with one slalom-style turn after another, Martinelli is all about straight-line pace. Just put your head down and go, something he did early and often at Selhurst Park.

While he wasn't always rewarded for his initiative, Martinelli grew into the game with every run. He also displayed a keen appetite for lifting early crosses above the Palace defence.

Keeping the supply lines from wide areas high has long been the formula for a prolific attack under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Martinelli did his bit to maintain the status quo, and his willingness to stay involved in the danger areas paid off when Rice's shot cannoned off him and into the net.

Hopefully, the fortuitous goal can be the start of another lengthy scoring run for a player with too much talent to continue floundering the way he had been for weeks.
