Arsenal dropped more points in the Premier League title race as they drew 2-2 with Aston Villa on Saturday evening.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners before Kai Havertz doubled the advantage in the second half. It looked like Mikel Arteta's side would cruise to victory from there but a Youri Tielemans header put Villa back in it. Eight minutes later, Ollie Watkins volleyed in an effort to bring his side level. Mikel Merino thought he had won it late on when he beat Emiliano Martinez with a scuffed effort but a deflection of the hand of Havertz saw VAR intervene and rule it out.
As Arsenal hit another damaging bump in the road in their bid to keep up with league leaders Liverpool, there were three standout players amid what was a mixed performance from the squad.
1. Leandro Trossard
Entrusted to play on the left-wing once again, Leandro Trossard put in another great performance in attack.
The Belgian caused plenty of problems for Villa's defence as he was involved in plenty of moves down the left side. He grabbed two assists when he played two sublime crosses into the box for Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz to convert.
Trossard was his side's primary creator, making three chances for his teammates and also playing seven crosses into the box. He also tried his luck at goal on a number of occasions and was thwarted by Emiliano Martinez in a last minute attempt to find a winner.
