It was another monumental night for Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday as they defeated Bayern Munich 3-1 to maintain their 100% start to their European campaign.

Goals from Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli helped the Gunners overcome the Bundesliga giants and secure another huge three points, sending them to the top of the league phase table and furthering their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage.

There was no denying it was an overall brilliant team performance by Mikel Arteta's side, but there were three players that stood out as Arsenal overcame a familiar foe in the form of Bayern.

1. Declan Rice

In a game where he needed to be at the absolute top of his game, Declan Rice did not disappoint in the midfield for Arsenal.

He put in a superb performance as he did not stop running throughout the entire game. His constant movement allowed the Gunners to make swift attacking moves as he led a number of significant passages of play. The midfielder also offered the same threat as he always does from set pieces, putting multiple teasing deliveries into the Bayern box.

His best moments may have came with his team in possession, but he also contributed plenty defensively. Rice stood firm in the middle to keep the visitors at bay and it was his quality that helped Arsenal net their second goal. He won back possession before beginning a move that saw Madueke put their side back ahead.

All that he needed was a goal to cap off a brilliant performance and he almost got that when he made an outstanding run from practically his own half into the visitors' box. He struck at goal, but was denied by a good save by Manuel Neuer.

It was a standout showing from Rice and one that once again that the Gunners really got what they paid for when splashing £105m to sign him from West Ham. As he so often does, he rose to the occasion when his side needed him most.

2. Martín Zubimendi

In the midst of a top performance by his midfield partner, Martín Zubimendi's brilliant contribution against Bayern may have gone slightly under the radar, but there is no denying he was one of his side's best players in the victory.

Looking to bounce back from the error he made against Spurs (which took practically nothing away from his performance), the Spaniard helped make a real difference at the base of midfield.

His presence in the middle helped Arsenal keep their visitors at bay for much of the second half and that meant he didn't actually have to do much defensively, but what he did do, he did very well. Despite his height, he won aerial duels and battled well with the opposition to allow them little hope of breaking through.

He was also key in attacking moves, completing 40 accurate passes of an attempted 44 (90.9% accuracy) with seven of those being progressive plays.

Zubimendi was easily one of his side's best players in the victory over Bayern and it showed once again why he was one of Arsenal top targets in the summer, and that they were very lucky to have secured his signature.

3. Jurrien Timber

The absence of Luis Diaz on Bayern's left side didn't offer Jurrien Timber any chance of an easy night as he instead had to come up against former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry.

However, despite facing the German, the right back did in fact have a simple time as he helped keep the Bavarian attack to a minimum down the left side. It says enough that Gnabry's assist was his only real contribution and that came when he drifted over to the right side.

Timber was solid in both defence and attack throughout as he played high up the pitch to help put plenty of pressure on Bayern as they tried to play out. He battled well all night, winning four of his five ground duels and all three aerial duels.

His best moment came early on though when he rose to meet Bukayo Saka's corner and head the Gunners into the lead after 22 minutes. That moment acted as a precedent of what was to come for both Timber and Arsenal.
