2. Ending a dismal record

Not only would a win for Arsenal see them put pressure on Liverpool, it would also end the dismal record they have held at St James' Park in recent years.
The Gunners have won just one of their last five meetings to the ground, losing the other four without even scoring a goal. That has to change for Arteta and his side this afternoon.
Newcastle are now a challenger for the European spots and Arsenal need to demonstrate their superiority as a club. They can't do that unless they begin performing in their visits to Tyneside. The Gunners have to take three points back to north London later today and end the terrible record they have developed.
